TakealotNOW reaches 10th Cape Town hub as on-demand shopping moves beyond groceries

CAPE TOWN — 25 August 2026 — South Africa’s on-demand shopping market is gaining momentum as TakealotNOW expands its Cape Town footprint with the opening of its 10th hub in Constantia, extending rapid delivery services across the city’s Southern Suburbs.

The new hub will serve customers in Kenilworth, Constantia, Tokai, Grassy Park and Muizenberg, giving households in these areas faster access to thousands of products available through TakealotNOW.

The expansion comes as consumer expectations around convenience continue to reshape retail, with shoppers increasingly looking beyond traditional delivery windows for everyday products that can arrive within hours — or minutes.

Through the Mr D app, TakealotNOW customers can access thousands of products with delivery averaging around 40 minutes.

Beyond the grocery basket

While quick commerce has historically been associated with grocery and food delivery, TakealotNOW is positioning itself around a broader proposition: giving consumers rapid access to general merchandise.

The service allows customers to order products spanning technology accessories, beauty and personal care, books, toys, sports equipment, DIY supplies, homeware and small appliances, among other categories.

That broader product mix could become an increasingly important differentiator as South Africa’s on-demand economy develops.

“The opening of our 10th hub is a significant milestone for TakealotNOW,” says Karla Levick, Chief Marketing Officer at Takealot.com.

“It means we can reach more customers in the Southern Suburbs and make a wider range of products available to them when they need them.”

The Constantia expansion illustrates how on-demand retail is evolving from a service primarily associated with urgent grocery purchases into a wider convenience proposition.

A customer may need pet food, household essentials or personal-care products, but the same delivery infrastructure can also be used for technology, entertainment, home improvement and lifestyle purchases.

From everyday essentials to unexpected purchases

The products being ordered through TakealotNOW offer an interesting snapshot of how consumers are using rapid delivery.

Recent orders have included 20kg bags of Montego Classic Adult Dog Food, 18-packs of Baby Soft toilet paper, pregnancy tests, Lego Speed Champions sets and Fujifilm Instax Mini Film.

Technology products have also featured prominently, with customers ordering items such as Apple AirPods and iPads and the Xiaomi TV Box S.

The range demonstrates the changing role of convenience delivery: it is no longer limited to the traditional emergency grocery run.

Instead, consumers are increasingly able to use on-demand services to solve a variety of immediate needs — from replacing household essentials to purchasing gifts, entertainment products or consumer electronics.

Building a national on-demand network

TakealotNOW launched in 2023 and has continued expanding its hub network across Gauteng, the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

The latest Cape Town expansion strengthens the company’s presence in a market where density, convenience and delivery speed are becoming increasingly important competitive factors.

For retailers, the growth of on-demand commerce presents an opportunity to bring the digital shopping experience closer to the physical neighbourhoods where consumers live.

Instead of relying solely on large fulfilment centres and longer delivery windows, hub-based models allow retailers to position inventory closer to customers and respond more quickly to local demand.

For consumers, the proposition is straightforward: greater product choice without necessarily having to wait for conventional delivery.

Convenience becomes the competitive edge

The Constantia hub is another step in TakealotNOW’s effort to build an on-demand retail network capable of serving more than just immediate grocery needs.

As South African consumers become increasingly accustomed to convenience across everything from food and transport to financial services and e-commerce, expectations around delivery speed are also changing.

TakealotNOW says its next phase of growth will focus on expanding access to a broader range of products and reaching more neighbourhoods through its growing network of hubs.

With its 10th Cape Town hub now operational, the company is betting that the future of e-commerce will not only be about what consumers can buy online — but how quickly they can get it.
