JOHANNESBURG — Few rivalries in world sport carry the history, intensity and respect of South Africa versus New Zealand, and adidas is celebrating that extraordinary relationship with the launch of its latest rugby campaign, Greatness Collides.

The campaign arrives ahead of the 2026 All Blacks Tour of South Africa, which gets underway this August and will see the two rugby powerhouses meet once again on one of the game’s biggest stages.

The seven-match tour begins with an opening fixture against the DHL Stormers, before attention turns to three highly anticipated Tests between the Springboks and All Blacks.

For adidas, however, the story extends beyond the final whistle.

Greatness Collides explores the culture, communities, traditions and personal stories that have helped shape one of rugby’s most enduring rivalries.

Where rugby meets culture

Inspired by the backyards, neighbourhoods and communities where many rugby journeys begin, the campaign looks beyond the stadium to explore what the rivalry means to the people who live it.

At its heart is a cinematic hero film bringing together adidas athletes and legends from both countries.

South African stars Damian Willemse and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu feature alongside Springbok legend Jean de Villiers, while New Zealand is represented by current stars Beauden Barrett and Ruben Love, together with All Blacks great Dan Carter.

Although the players will ultimately stand on opposite sides of the field, the campaign highlights the shared connection created by the sport — and by the iconic Three Stripes.

That connection is particularly significant for adidas, which holds authentic relationships with both rugby nations.

The campaign therefore presents South Africa and New Zealand not simply as rivals, but as two rugby cultures whose shared history has helped elevate the sport globally.

A rivalry built on respect

South Africa versus New Zealand has produced some of rugby’s most memorable contests, from fiercely contested Tests to moments of extraordinary individual brilliance.

Yet what makes the rivalry distinctive is not simply the competition.

There is also a deep mutual respect between the two rugby cultures.

That duality sits at the centre of Greatness Collides — the idea that greatness is amplified when two exceptional rugby nations meet.

“Greatness Collides celebrates what happens when two rugby powerhouses meet,” said Tom Brown, Senior Brand Director at adidas South Africa.

According to Brown, the campaign celebrates the communities, traditions and players that have shaped the rivalry over generations, while highlighting adidas’ connection to both teams and their supporters.

From the pitch to everyday life

The campaign also coincides with the launch of the adidas x New Zealand Rugby All Blacks Collection, created specifically to commemorate the 2026 All Blacks Tour of South Africa.

The collection is designed to allow supporters to express their rugby allegiance beyond match day, combining official rugby apparel with a broader leisurewear offering.

It includes men’s and women’s T-shirts, quarter-zips, pants and shorts, alongside official match and training apparel.

The range forms part of adidas’ wider Rugby Fanwear offering, giving supporters an opportunity to incorporate their rugby identity into everyday wear.

The performance apparel has also been developed using player insights, with a focus on meeting the physical demands of elite rugby.

For supporters, the leisurewear collection provides a more casual way of carrying the spirit of the All Blacks Tour beyond the stadium.

Seven matches, one iconic rivalry

The timing of the campaign adds to the anticipation surrounding the 2026 tour.

With seven matches scheduled across South Africa, the tour will provide rugby fans with an extended celebration of the sport before the rivalry reaches its peak during the three Test matches between the Springboks and All Blacks.

The opening fixture against the DHL Stormers will set the tone before the focus shifts to the battle between the two international giants.

For fans on both sides, it will be another chapter in a rivalry defined by history, physicality, tactical excellence and unforgettable moments.

Celebrating the people behind the game

Perhaps the most compelling element of Greatness Collides is its decision to focus not only on the stars but on the broader culture surrounding rugby.

The campaign recognises that rugby stories often begin long before players enter professional stadiums — in schools, clubs, backyards, communities and family traditions.

Those spaces create the next generation of supporters and players, while passing the culture of the game from one generation to another.

In that sense, South Africa and New Zealand share more than a competitive rivalry.

They share a deep understanding of what rugby means to their people.

The next chapter begins

As the All Blacks prepare to arrive in South Africa, anticipation is already building around what promises to be another significant chapter in one of international rugby’s greatest rivalries.

Through Greatness Collides, adidas is positioning the tour as more than a series of matches.

It is a celebration of the people, places, traditions and players that have made South Africa versus New Zealand one of the defining rivalries in global sport.

And when the two sides finally meet, the stakes will once again be enormous.

Two nations. Two rugby cultures. One legendary rivalry.

When greatness meets greatness, Greatness Collides.
