South African music history is once again being rewritten as DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small prepare to deliver one of the biggest live music spectacles the country has ever seen.

The duo’s highly anticipated has officially sold more than 70 000 tickets in just seven days, placing the event on track to become the second biggest concert ever hosted at FNB Stadium.

The event, scheduled for 19 September 2026, has already become a defining moment for Amapiano and African live entertainment, with demand reaching unprecedented levels from the moment tickets went on sale on 5 May.

Half a million fans queue for tickets

In a remarkable show of support for the Scorpion Kings movement, more than 500 000 fans reportedly joined online queues on Webtickets South Africa in an attempt to secure tickets.

The extraordinary demand — more than six times the current number of tickets sold — has highlighted not only the dominance of Amapiano within South Africa’s music scene, but also its growing global cultural influence.

Industry observers are already describing the concert as one of the fastest-selling stadium events in South African entertainment history.

As momentum continues to build, organisers have officially applied to release an additional 10 000 tickets in an effort to move closer to the attendance record set by legendary Irish rock band U2, whose historic FNB Stadium concert attracted approximately 88 000 fans.

If approved, the additional ticket allocation could position Scorpion Kings Live as one of the largest music gatherings ever staged on the African continent.

More than a concert — a cultural movement

What began as a collaboration between two pioneering producers has evolved into a global cultural phenomenon that continues to redefine African music and youth culture.

The Scorpion Kings brand has become synonymous with the rise of Amapiano — the South African-born genre that has rapidly expanded beyond township streets and local clubs to dominate international festivals, playlists, and dance floors worldwide.

This year’s concert theme, A Family Affair, reflects the collective spirit that has helped fuel the genre’s explosive growth.

According to the duo, the event is intended to celebrate the broader Amapiano community — from artists and collaborators to the fans who continue to elevate the movement globally.

Reflecting on the overwhelming response, DJ Maphorisa said the support from fans has been deeply emotional.

“The love has been on another level. Seeing fans show up and stay with us all the way just to get tickets means everything. We don’t take that for granted — this moment is because of them.”

Kabza De Small added:

“We’re grateful to every single person who waited and showed us love. That patience, that support — this is what ‘A Family Affair’ is about. This is bigger than us, it’s for the culture and for the people.”

Amapiano’s global rise continues

The success of Scorpion Kings Live further cements Amapiano’s position as one of Africa’s most influential cultural exports.

Over the past few years, the genre has evolved from an underground township sound into an international phenomenon embraced by artists, DJs, and audiences across Europe, the United States, Asia, and Africa.

The Scorpion Kings themselves have played a central role in shaping that movement through chart-topping releases, international collaborations, sold-out tours, and the development of new talent within the genre.

Their impact has extended beyond music into fashion, youth culture, dance, and lifestyle, helping position Amapiano as a defining soundtrack of a new African creative era.

A world-class stadium experience awaits

Organisers have promised a large-scale production featuring immersive visuals, a star-studded lineup of collaborators and special guests, and a world-class live entertainment experience designed to reflect the scale of Amapiano’s global influence.

Further announcements regarding additional ticket releases and surprise performances are expected in the coming weeks as anticipation for the concert continues to intensify.

With four months still remaining before the show, one thing has already become clear: Scorpion Kings Live is no longer simply a concert — it is a historic cultural moment that could redefine the future of African live entertainment.
