Pretoria, South Africa — Nearly a decade after opening its doors, Time Square Casino has firmly established itself as one of Gauteng’s most dynamic entertainment destinations — and the numbers tell a compelling story.

Since launching in 2017, the multi-purpose complex has paid out an astonishing R2.4 billion in jackpots, underscoring both its popularity and the high-energy gaming experience that continues to draw visitors from across the region. In the past year alone, more than R219 million has been awarded to winners — translating to an average monthly payout exceeding R18.2 million.

For many regulars, the frequent sound of the casino’s signature jackpot siren has become synonymous with the venue’s vibrant atmosphere — a reflection of sustained foot traffic and consistent engagement on the gaming floor.

Momentum Built on Consistency

According to newly appointed General Manager Bryan O’Connor, the success of Time Square lies not just in scale, but in the consistency of its delivery.

“Time Square has built real momentum over the past nine years, and what stands out is the consistency of that growth,” he says. “From the casino floor to the arena and conferencing spaces, the focus is on delivering at scale while still maintaining a high standard of experience for every guest.”

That dual focus — scale and quality — has become a defining characteristic of the precinct.

More Than a Casino

Strategically located opposite Menlyn Maine Mall, Time Square has evolved far beyond its gaming roots. Today, it operates as a fully integrated entertainment hub, catering to a wide spectrum of audiences.

Families, for instance, are drawn to The Magic Company, an interactive arcade environment offering everything from racing simulators to augmented reality gaming experiences. Complementing this is a ten-pin bowling facility enhanced with UV lighting, as well as Tick Tocks Crèche, which provides supervised childcare — allowing parents to explore the precinct with ease.

A Stage for Global Entertainment

At the heart of Time Square’s entertainment offering is the Sunbet Arena, an 8,500-seat venue that has become a magnet for both international and local acts.

In 2026 alone, the arena has hosted globally recognised performers including Bryan Adams, UB40, Doja Cat and Boyz II Men — building on a strong 2025 lineup that featured Kenny G and the internationally acclaimed production Lord of the Dance by Michael Flatley.

These large-scale performances have become a cornerstone of Time Square’s identity, positioning it as a premier live entertainment venue in the region.

A Growing Business Destination

Beyond leisure and entertainment, Time Square has carved out a significant role in the business events sector.

Throughout 2025, the complex hosted over 1,200 events, welcoming more than 22,500 guests across conferences, corporate functions and large-scale gatherings. These figures highlight not only demand, but also the venue’s operational capacity to handle high volumes without compromising on service delivery.

Its conferencing facilities — located just minutes from Lynnwood — are equipped with modern technology and flexible configurations, catering to everything from executive board meetings to major industry events.

Flexible Hospitality, Elevated Experience

Adding to the precinct’s versatility is the Time Square Hotel, a unique offering in the South African hospitality landscape.

The hotel stands out as the only property in the country to provide three-, four- and five-star accommodation under one roof, a model recognised by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa. This tiered approach allows guests to tailor their stay according to budget and preference, without sacrificing quality or convenience.

Dining at Scale

Time Square’s culinary offering is equally expansive. Spread across three levels, its restaurants can accommodate close to 2,600 diners, delivering a broad spectrum of options — from quick-service meals to more refined dining experiences.

By partnering with established food brands and operators, the precinct has managed to achieve a balance between variety and consistency — a critical factor in maintaining guest satisfaction at scale.

A Destination Defined by Energy

What ultimately distinguishes Time Square Casino is not just the breadth of its offering, but the energy with which it operates.

From the constant buzz of the casino floor to sold-out arena shows and back-to-back conferences, the precinct functions as a living ecosystem — one that continues to evolve while maintaining its core promise of high-quality entertainment.

Looking Ahead

Nine years since its launch, Time Square is not merely reflecting on past achievements — it is actively building on them.

With sustained investment, a diversified offering, and a clear focus on guest experience, the complex remains firmly on an upward trajectory. As the numbers continue to climb and the entertainment calendar grows ever more ambitious, one thing is clear:

Time Square is not slowing down — it is just getting started.
