The Mercedes-AMG CLE53 Coupé Lands in South Africa with Electrified Power and Premium Features
The new Mercedes-AMG CLE53 Coupé has officially launched in South Africa, featuring a mildly hybridised 3.0-litre inline-six engine. This sleek two-door performance model joins the local line-up of AMG-tuned vehicles from Mercedes-Benz.
First unveiled globally in late 2023, the CLE53 is available in Europe as both a coupé and a cabriolet, but for now, only the hardtop variant has made it to South African shores. It sits above the CLE200 and CLE300 models, which are offered locally in both body styles.
Pricing Details
So, how much will this AMG-badged model set you back? According to the Mercedes-Benz South Africa configurator, the CLE53 Coupé 4Matic+ starts at R1 989 562. This excludes a maintenance plan. However, Mercedes-Benz SA also offers an all-inclusive package priced at R2 065 982, which includes a 5-year/100 000 km maintenance plan.
Performance & Powertrain
Under the bonnet, the CLE53 is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six engine delivering 330 kW and 560 Nm, with a brief overboost function raising torque to 600 Nm for up to 12 seconds. The powertrain also incorporates a mild-hybrid system with an integrated starter-generator, capable of supplying an additional 17 kW and 205 Nm for short bursts.
A 9-speed automatic gearbox is standard, as is the AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes claims a 0–100 kph sprint time of 4.2 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 250 kph. Opting for the AMG Driver’s Package (R41 500) increases the top speed to 270 kph.
